Finding Happiness

Thinking today of my near future, I became overwhelmed by all the choices I have to make. I tried listing the things I thought would be fun to do, the things I thought would bring me happiness and joy. I wanted to get involved, try new things; after a long day of hard thinking, I have decided that trying new things and getting involved more will not bring me happiness. I would never find the true joy I long to have in doing these things.
Truth is, I was just trying to “feel something”, like Beth Moore describes in her “Daniel” study. We look for happiness in society, entertainment, EARTHLY THINGS. When we run out of money, the joy goes away. When the shows over for the night and its time to go home, the joy goes away. Finding happiness in these things is not eternal like we humans try to make them out to be.
“As the father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you keep my commands, you will remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy will be complete.” – John 15:9-11
Our joy will be complete in Christ. How great of a statement is that! The lost will be happy and filled with an everlasting joy when found (Isaiah 51). So why are we searching for this everlasting joy and happiness in these earthly things that end so quickly when there is a Savior that can give us endless, everlasting joy and love?
The bible says our sorrow will be turned into joy. There will be no more tears, no more pain, and no more sorrow in Heaven. So why are we letting these earthly things bring us down because they cannot supply an unending joy?
“For I know the plans that I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” – Jeremiah 29:11
God has great plans for all of us. We cannot dwell in finding our future on our own. Whatever God has planned for our future, we can trust him to bring us pure happiness and joy.
To find this love and joy it is not hard. Knock on God’s door and you will be let in. He will not turn you away but prove his love to you and shower you with joy!
Next time you realize your joy is running out because you have sought it in earthly things, say to yourself “I chose joy!” And be an Overcomer. Don’t let worldly concerns, problems, and events affect the pure joy God so longs to give you.
