The Psalm 119 Study

~Day 2~ Psalm 119:2-3

“Blessed are those who keep his statutes and seek him with all their heart- they do no wrong, but follow his ways” (NIV)

The word statute is another word for law or regulation. As many of have said, the Bible is the Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth. The Bible isn’t just a book; it’s a guideline and instruction manual to help us get through everyday life.
In a sense, you can compare it to the laws we must follow issued by the government or authoritative position of the country. If you are caught speeding 55 m.p.h. in a 35 m.p.h. zone, that’s a violation of the law. With a violation of the law, there is consequences. If your caught speeding that intensely, you are most likely going to get a speeding ticket. Just as if we violate the law here on earth, there are consequences if we violate God’s law. A violation of God’s law is called sin. Although with God’s law there isn’t a specific penalty depending on which law you break. 1 John 3:15 says “anyone who hates his brother is a murderer”, this tells us that all sins are equal. We all get the same penalty for sin. That is separation from God. Romans 6:23 says “for the wages of sin is death”. Death is the complete opposite because Jesus says “I am the way, the truth, and the life..” (John 14:6). So living a life full of sin, but knowing Jesus and that you are violating his law and sinning is like living an oxymoron. You have life and death.
If you have sin in your life don’t feel like you’re the only one because you are not. Romans 3:23 tells us that we have all sinned and fallen short in the glory of God. We are all sinners in this dark and dying world. Back to Psalm 119:2-3, we need to pursue God with our whole heart and let him be our everything (just as he desires to be). In verse three, it says “they do no wrong, but follow his ways”. They do no wrong because they know the word of God and it is absolutely impossible to do wrong when you follow the ways God has written for us in the bible. I tell you this my friends, let Jesus fill you with his life! Repent of your sins and let Jesus guide you and be the light in your life. Then, pursue. Pursue God’s word with all your heart. Learn, live it, be it.

Heavenly Father, come to us. Fill us with your love and compassion. Forgive us of our sins Lord! Lead us to repentance so that we can live an eternal life with you as our Savior! Help us to live by your laws. Bless us great king and let us seek after you with our whole hearts. Amen.
