Running Our Race

“Let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us” -Hebrews 12:1

What race is marked out for us? The author of Hebrews is saying that we are running a race when we accept Christ into our lives. John Bevere says that “unbelievers have yet to begin the Christian race”; in essence, we are running our race for God. Usually when we first start the race we are on fire, running full throttle. However, as we get further and further into the race we begin to become weaker and weaker. We allow things into our lives that begin to “hinder” our race.

We are told to get rid of these things. We can’t run the race they way Christ wants us to when we let sin into the picture. Also, sometimes our own hindrances effect those who are surrounding us. We may begin to let ourselves believe that the race is a competition between everyone else. We boast and try to be better than one another, but we are all equal in the eyes of Christ. We need to be alert, as in keeping our minds set on Christ in everything we do, so that when we are hindered we have a solid foundation to stand on. Let us run with the perseverance Christ has given us!
